Saint Demetrius of Rostov (1651–1709) was a Russian Orthodox bishop and an outstanding preacher, theologian, and spiritual writer. The principal work of his life was the compilation of the Chetyi-Minei (Menaion Reader), a vast collection of lives of the saints that to this day holds a special place in Orthodox literature.
